Magpie Nest Café Corporate Volunteer Day
The River Capital team was fortunate to take part in a corporate volunteer experience at the Magpie Nest Café on Bourke Street recently, assisting with the breakfast shift alongside a dedicated group of volunteers.
Operated by the Salvation Army’s Project 614, with support from the Collingwood Community Foundation, the Magpie Nest Café serves as a vital first point of contact for many people experiencing homelessness in Melbourne. The café provides free breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with support services for individuals from all walks of life.
The café is staffed by a passionate mix of volunteers and community members who are committed to tackling homelessness across Victoria. Staff and players from the Collingwood Football Club, as well as team members from Coles, are regular volunteers.
Our team was grateful to be able to contribute to such a meaningful, community-driven program.
Volunteering at the Magpie Nest Café was an incredibly rewarding experience. I enjoyed connecting with both guests and volunteers and learning about their experiences. It gave me a deeper appreciation for the sense of community the program creates, and I was inspired to see so many people come together with kindness and compassion. - Christy Huo
Volunteering with the River team at Magpie Nest Café allowed us the opportunity to not only serve breakfast to; but connect with those less fortunate than us. - Courtney Powell
