The LBW Trust's National Backyard Cricket
River Capital fielded a team of enthusiastic cricketers to support The LBW Trust's National Backyard Cricket T-10 Tournament on 26 March 2025 on the beautiful grounds of Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The compulsory dress code of thongs/flip-flops set the scene for a fun-filled afternoon!
The annual LBW Trust's National Backyard Cricket Tournaments raise money and awareness for educating disadvantaged young men and women in cricket playing nations, including Australia. This unique event is a great opportunity for corporate teams and people to spend time together bonding and kicking off the new year with purpose.
The tournament is played between 6 teams in two pools with each team having to bowl and bat within the 30 minute games. Some key rules included the fact that thongs/flip-flops were compulsory noting that wearing runners and shoes may be penalized, and teams were encouraged to bring spares in case of breakages! The pool winners are decided by the umpires based on runs, wickets and spirit, and play off in the final. Congratulations goes to the Helloworld Team on their win!
"The River Capital first eleven competed in a unique backyard cricket tournament on the beautiful lawns of Parliament House. Smaller fields, smaller bats, unique rules and playing in either bare feet or thongs were the rules for the day. All of us had a bat, bowl, and a field. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the final as some of the other teams took it a bit more seriously than we did. However, we had a lot of fun." - James Joseph
